Good Afternoon,
Please find the minutes for the Guild meeting held on May 19, 2026, below:
1. Denise L. called the meeting to order at 10:01 AM.
2. Twenty-two members signed in. It was noted that several members were unable to attend due to illness.
3. Guests: Carmen from Quality Sewing was in attendance.
4. Membership: There were no new members. Jo Ann received a letter from Kashia, who shared her history and affection for the group but noted she is moving and will no longer be able to attend.
5. Announcements:
- Margaret-Every day at Granny’s Attic new material is stocked. They are low on fabric right now, so if you have any laying around this would be the time to contribute.
- Barbara-groups
- Featherweight meets this next Tuesday (May 26th) at Barbara’s (9-3ish).
- Applique meets the first Tuesday in June (the 2nd)..a notice will come out as to where-it was undecided at the meeting (10-3). Note added May 31: Applique group will meet at Georgia’s house at 10 on Tuesday of this coming week. The group typically meets until 3. Bring your lunch, a project and enjoy the community, conversation and treat yourself to the afternoon “off”
- Machine Quilters will meet on Memorial Day at Georgia’s. (1-4)
- Sew Day will be the 9th of June-this sew day Mary will continue to show techniques to sew L seams and answer questions about previous techniques. She is a fabulous teacher, with plenty of examples.
- Kathy asked for fire station quilts to come in at the next meeting if at all possible. She emphasized that over the course of washing all the quilts we have turned in it is imperative that we pre wash fabric if possible or plan on the quilt being washed prior to gifting. She brought in a bag of color catchers that were full of color! I didn’t get the brand but the color catchers are locally available and certainly available at your (not so local anymore) quilt stores.
- We all agreed that we would love to see all the quilts before gifting just to get a sense of the work across the group. To be announced in the future.
- Jo Ann agreed to write an article for the Beachcomber.
- VIGA quilt is done!…well almost. The binding is happening now. It turned out to be a queen size quilt, with the group well represented across the work. And what amazing work is showing on this quilt! After binding, Chris will deliver the quilt to VIGA so they can begin hosting and selling raffle tickets for their food access program. Chris, me, thanked this lovely group for all the help and advice..so many hands took part and it really shows.
- The future Sew Day – Mary will show y seams. It was noted that there were quite a few in attendance at the last sew day and lots of energy. Mary gave us a preview of the technique which she will demonstrate at the next sew day. This technique allows for several seams to be joined together without the traditional expletive deleted or puckers that keep puckering. Mary plans to bring examples and will sew them as a demonstration on sew day. Bring your own projects or sew along with her as she teaches this technique.
6. Show and Tell
Margaret brought a quilt, Pat brought a firestation quilt, Georgia brought in a sample of the stamping she and Barb have learned from Judy (combine paper piecing and precision stamping and you have it!), Tish brought in a fire station quilt, Theresa as well.
7. Program
We broke for just a short bit and then listened to Carmen from Quality Sewing.

Carmen began by telling us a short history of her family owned and run business-which now spans 12 stores from Bellingham to Tacoma..or was that Olympia?All but the Northgate store carry bolted fabric and all have classes as well as machine repair.
She encouraged us to take a look both at the website/blog and their YouTube channel for more info, as well as free tips and instruction.

Here are the top ten subjects she covered and showed products related to:
- cutting systems, clips, cutting tools, rulers, scissors, needles (her recommendation-CHANGE THEM ALOT), pressing, design wall, clippies for organization, lights, feet for sewing machines. She fielded several questions about long arms and the myriad of issues they bring as well as discussing in depth each of the pros and cons of the products she brought.
If any of you have an update to the roster or want to make an addition, please let me know. I plan to release the roster in the next week or so with any changes.
