Good Afternoon and Happy St Paddy’s day!

Denise  welcomed everyone and began the meeting at 10 sharp!

22 members were present.

No guests, no new members.

Updates;

  1. The community quilt is nearing completion. There are just a couple of pieces left and it looks like the pieces are blending and coming in with a real life of their own. May 1st is the next time I expect to work on the quilt other than to plan the final layout with the pieces we have. There will be many opportunities to assist with that process and keep me on the rails if you have a mind.
  2. Fire department; We have 18 quilts in the pipeline. Could you let Kathy P know if you have one or are working on one? 63 x 95 finished. We have some opportunities for quilting out there if you are interested.
  3. Sew day this meeting day is the last one on the same day as the meeting. By voting it is back to the old plan with it looks like more interest.
  4. 4th Tuesday is Featherweight at Barbara G’s. 9-3
  5. Last Monday is machine quilting at Sharon’s. 1-3ish
  6. First Tuesday (of April) is Applique at Judy D’s. from 10-3ish.
  7. Thriftway receipts go to Su Dewalt this month.
  8. Sharon provides snacks next month.
  9. Marian volunteered to take over the hospitality stuff for Betsy for now.
  10. JoAnn is warning us that any hand dyed fabric purchased at the auction is going to bleed like crazy so best to prewash or just be aware.
  11. Technique challenges have changed to y seams. Mary C. volunteered to teach us..thank you!! I am assuming this will occur on Sew day next which will be April 14 from 9-1.

Ann Blair would love to be able to quiz someone who has made a Mariners compass quilt…

Highlights from field trip  to Quilters Anonymous show at Evergreen State Fairground in Monroe on 3/14/26

400+ quilts, all different, all extraordinary-EVERYONE found a favorite. Thanks to Denise for driving. what a great trip and so easy for all of us. Pictures taken by intrepid travelers will go up on the website for perusal. If you have them, send them to Susan Lewis and she will transfer to the website. One of the quilts that looked fun to make was the Picasso quilt-a group quilt made from 12 different faces created in cubist style with lots of quilters participating. Should we make one?

The last week in September we will take another field trip to LaConnor to the Quilt museum. More to come on that later.  If you have other ideas for field trips please chime in! (to Denise)

Any interest in a show at the Library and so much that you might want to coordinate it? Call Denise again.

Next month’s program is explained below with instructions;

UFO Program for April 2026 QG meeting

Please bring a UFO or two, and be prepared to tell the story of:
1) the optimistic project start. How long has it been hanging around unfinished? Was it a gift needed for an occasion? A color combo you wanted to try? A new pattern that you couldn’t wait to start? Or something else???

2) and the sad tale of where and how things went off the rails.

If you’d like, guild members could offer suggestions for how to “fix” your UFO. Orhow to regain your sewjo to finish it.
After the presentations, the UFOs could be put on the free table, or perhapsauctioned for a dollar or two, or go home with the quilter who brought them,newly inspired to finish it.

Program highlights

Pamela Wickard showed her tapestries, paintings and talked extensively about her process and what led her to becoming a textile mixed media artist. She stated that she does not consider herself a quilter but uses fabric and textiles in all her work. She began her career as a graphic designer and progressed over several years to mixed media, heavy in fabric and weaving techniques. In 2018 she moved to Vashon and in 2020 she began weaving and using textiles, yarn, fabric and natural materials in her work. She begins by choosing a palette and showed us a basket that had a gathering of yarns and rough textiles that are going into her next project. (just the basket was yummy to view)Pamela went on to display several pieces and her paintings that preceded the work she is doing now, using this work to talk about decision making, technique, idea generation and future plans, including the materials and structural components. Her resume of shows includes VIVA, VCA, local wineries and she is working on finding new venues.
She emphasized her love of process (many people nodding at that) and like all of us loves to do everything. For me, her work was rich, full of texture and life and deeply informed by the natural world around her. Very enjoyable to hear from her.

Show and Tell
Banner day for show and tell! 9 people brought in their quilts! Su D, Kathy P, JoAnn, Maryanne, Denise, Sharon, Janice, Andrea, Chris….several of these people brought in multiple quilts!

If you have a quilt to donate for a premature baby you can drop off the quilt at VCA to Alison with ultimate destination Anita Halstead. 30×36 no larger, only cotton, no sparkles, finished or just a top.

And with that I respectfully submit the minutes!

Just an aside; I am out of town next month. I will attempt to send a reminder by scheduling one for the week prior to the meeting. Minutes will have to happen on another computer.
