24 members attended our February quilt guild meeting which was led by Kathy Pierce.  The meeting was
attended by our newest member, Mary Corcoran. Welcome Mary!

Old and New Business

2025 Quilt Show news:  Denise sent around a signup sheet for members to indicate the expected
number and sizes of quilts they are likely to display at our 2025 Quilt Show (June 28-29).  We also plan
to include quilts that represent each of the charity groups we support.  Georgia will be making up the
raffle baskets for the show.  The contents of these baskets will be unused quilt related items including
notions, fabric (e.g. fat quarters, jelly rolls), rulers, or any other sewing items. Please bring these
donations to Georgia.  There will not be enough space for us to have a shop at this show and the
logistics have not been worked out yet for those hoping to sell a quilt from the display. There will be a
meeting of the quilt show committee in early March.

If you have not already done so, please pay your dues ($30) for 2025. Checks should be made out to the
Vashon Island Quilt Guild.  Please mail them to Sharon Aukland at 9718 SW 268th St on Vashon,
98070.  A new membership roster will be sent out next month.

Miyoko, who has collected our grocery receipts for many years, has handed off this role to Ivy who has
graciously volunteered to take over this responsibility. Thank you both.

Sue Nebeker gave a brief history of the American Heroes project which she started over 20 years
ago.  Initially she coordinated the construction of 100 quilts to be given to wounded soldiers and
thought that would be the end of the project.  The generals called and asked when she would be
back.  All these years later she continues to supply these metaphoric hugs to the men and women
injured in the defense of our country.  20 years is a long time to keep this project going.  Quilters who
worked on these quilts are aging out or burning out so that there are fewer people to rely on.  But the
number of soldiers in need of quilts continues.  Sue needs more help.  She needs red, white, and blue
quilt tops (cotton, no flannel or glitter as these can get into wounds) that are around 60” x 80”.  She
needs people to make bindings (380” needed per quilt) as well as people to attach bindings and labels.
Sue has plenty of red, white, and blue in her stash so feel free to contact her to get any fabric you may
need. blueberryhillfabrics@comcast.net

Today’s Speaker

Tesse Crocker, the owner of Luna Bella Consignment Boutique, was today’s speaker.  She is an
entertaining and gifted speaker.  She began by giving us a brief account of her background, including her
design and construction of gowns for Hollywood stars and productions as well as local theater.  She
bought Luna Bella in 2020.  She described her consignment business including her review process for
choosing garments for her store.  She also designs and constructs bridal gowns.  Her gowns are
alternative, not traditional, and made sustainably.  She reuses old bridal gowns and notions and does
not use any new fabric.  With the addition of a new sewing space adjacent to her shop, she had started a
sewing school.  She, as well as other locally talented sewers, teaches classes for adults and
children.  These range from classes to get to know your sewing machine, to upcycling classes, to learning
to make silk pillow cases and underwear.  She sent around a sheet to sign up to get her emails
describing upcoming classes.  You may stop by her shop to sign up.  Shop hours are Thursday and Friday:
noon to 6, Saturday and Sunday 10-5.

Show and Tell

Donna had 5 bright and beautiful quilts to show us as well as 2 panels on which she had drawn big,
colorful butterflies using felt pens.
Andrea’s quilt, made with our challenge fabrics, included 4 patches on point.  The left over 4 patches
went into her second quilt.  Andrea always astounds us with her ability to not only construct one
stunning quilt, but make a second with remnants.
Barb had a blue work shirt from 1971 on which she had embroidered flowers and a bird for her
beloved.  This brought back great memories for many of us.
Margaret’s theme for this month’s baby quilts was frogs.  She had 4 to show us, all bright and fun.  She
also made towels for hanging on your stove.
Leann made a pretty table mat in which she assembled strips that resulted in a weave pattern look.
Janice showed her cool tube challenge quilt which consisted of a zig zag pattern of squares. She also had
6 charily quilts (4 baby and 2 for Fred Hutch).
Anne Blair brought 2 sweet baby quilts, one of soft greens and pinks, the other with cheerful bright
colors.
Jo Ann’s inviting quilt was made from a charm pack from Granny’s.
