Denise called the meeting to order at 10 am sharp.
18 people were in attendance. No guests, no new members.
- The progress on the VIGA quilt was explained-it was delivered to Karen Biondo and two other VIGA members the previous week. All parties were thrilled and Karen will apprise us of when it will go on display. Thanks to all members (over 14 people) who contributed-it sure added up to a magnificent
- Barb brought us up to date with the small groups.
- Featherweight is this coming Tuesday at her house at 10. (4th Tuesday of each month 10-3). Bring your lunch.
- Machine quilters will meet at the library this month, this coming Monday from 1-3. Air conditioning and space, and free all added up to Chris reserving the room at the library (and they confirmed).
- 1st Tuesday (June 7th) is applique (hand sewing) day at Judy Dohm’s house from 10 to 3. Bring your lunch.
- Sew day is the following Tuesday (the 2nd Tuesday) at the Lutheran church. Any demonstration will occur at 11 am, but you can show up to sew at 9 and stay till 1ish. We are asking for suggestions of a focus and questions to answer at sew day. You can email me or Denise or Barb if you have a suggestion, question or idea for a focus.
Next month our focus is “stack and whack”. Stay tuned for info at the next meeting and/or if the demonstrators want you to bring anything I will send out another notice letting you know.
We are taking a break from philanthropic efforts to get our heads wrapped around the next quilt show. It was noted that we really have done quite a few large projects over the course of this year. Margaret spoke about the treatment center in detail and suggested that if you are interested in supporting them with quilts they can be easily contacted.
Announcements: Andrea asked about a challenge quilt project and if there are ideas for what that might look like. Here are some possibilities;
- Things we love about Vashon (an individual quilt project)
- Picasso project (a group project)
- A block challenge that can be altered easily to conform to any participant (Margaret will show us this next month)
- Kathryn Y. has graciously volunteered to bind quilts – with a donation to the quilt guild as your remuneration.
- Congratulations to Denise who has a quilt accepted for display in the CQA show in Lynnwood. Her piece, Reflection, will be displayed in the show at the Lynnwood Events center from July 6-December 11.
- Ivy is next up for snacks-and thank you Su for the great strawberry shortcake!
- The last of the fire station quilts came in and Holy smokes they capped the project with style! At last count we have approximately 26 quilts to donate. Should you have one to add, contact Barb or Georgia. Thanks to Barb, Marian, Margaret, Denise, Andrea, Pat, Mary and Judy for sharing their wonderful work.
- Kudos to the website-if you are wondering where something is, when something is, what anything looks like or just about anything else that is going on for us take a tour of the website. I reminded everyone of the password and will gladly share if you find you have mislaid it. Just ping me and I will email it back to you.
- After shortcake the following people shared another set of work-JoAnn (Fred Hutch quilt), Georgia (paper piecing), Su (circle quilt), Margaret (2 new quilts) Andrea (a picture of her quilt as well all the others is on the website)
- It has been suggested that we figure out a project involving leaders and enders. This got everyone talking and it was agreed that we will come back to this. Barb wondered if there was a way that we could motivate, incentivize ourselves to begin, finish, or just get a project organized-suggestions included a sew day discussion/demo, a challenge project, using Bonnie Hunter’s website and book to inspire (quiltworld.com).
- Andrea asked again for volunteers to host a studio/sewing space tour. So far the list includes; Sharon, Chris, Barb, Georgia. This might be something that takes place in August.
- For the activity this month, quotes and questions all about quilting began a round robin, with each person picking a question out of the basket and discussion, comments, strategies, etc. Here are some examples; Old quilters never die, they just go batty, Start where you can, use what you can, what is on your desk as you quilt? I’d roll out the red carpet for someone who invented………, I will first use up my stash…ha ha….creative chaos is better than tidy idleness…are there any colors you would not put in a quilt?
- After a lively discussion, we adjourned at 12:05.
